Blind Boxes
A blind box is a sealed package that contains a sort of mystery collectible figure or item. You don’t know which specific item you will get until you open it. This format is popular in:
- Anime & game merchandise (e.g., Jujutsu Kaisen, The apothecary dairies)
- Designer toys (e.g., Pop Mart, Sonny Angels)
- Kawaii collectibles from Japan (Sanrio, Pokémon, Rilakkuma)
Blind boxes are designed to encourage collecting, trading and surprise.

History
The story of POP MART began in Beijing where it was founded by Wang Ning in 2010. It stared off as a small boutique that sold trendy but affordable items such as stationary & accessories. Later in 2014, the main focus was put on toys and in 2015 the blind box was born (inspired by the Japanese gachapon). The first real breakthrough happened in 2016 with the success of Molly. Since then the brand has know a rapid expansion, opening more stores and even vending machines called Roboshops. In 2022 the overseas expansion began which got even bigger with the success of LABUBU, SKULLPANDA and other figures. In 2026, POP MART manages 600+ stores worldwide! It has truly become a king and trendsetter in the market of collectible figures.
POP MART in Europe
POP MART opened its first European store in 2022 in London, Shaftesbury Avenue. Currently it has many stores spread all over Europe, as well as flagship stores in Milan, Amsterdam, Paris and London. As of right now, Europe’s favorite character is the LABUBU. Aside from POP MART stores, it’s sometimes also possible to buy figures in your local anime, comics or entertainment stores. These stores will sometimes host trading events so keep an eye out for that. Another option is following European collector influencers such as @yammy_xox (UK) or @popwithamanda (NL), who create community or host give aways. Sometimes collectors will sell or trade their duplicates on second hand markets such as Vinted. Lastly, you can check all our platforms for updates and events.

How to start?
Here are our best tips to start your collection!
- Start with a specific collection or theme: to keep it budget friendly and more manageable, it’s advised to start with a collection which contains many options you’d like to get, matches the vibe of your home or is most within your budget.
- Give yourself a maximum budget: it’s easy to get carried away with blind boxes, so set a max budget. You can do this by only bringing that amount in cash, bringing someone to hold you accountable or limit yourself to a certain number of boxes. Another option is buying second hand.
- Get involved in trading communities: getting duplicates is unavoidable, that’s why you should look for traders on FB groups, Discord or go to local stores or conventions.
- Keep the card and box: this is only important if you think you might sell the figures one day, as it increases their value.
- Protect your figures: maintenance is very important to keep your figures in good quality. Therefore it is recommended to regularly dust them off, keep them out of the sunlight and ideally store them in an acrylic display case.
- Make a list: if you are an impulsive buyer, aside from making a budget, you can prepare a wishlist and focus on buying the figures you really want.
- Keep an eye on limited editions or popular series: some series tend to sell out fast so make sure to be there on the release date! You can check the newest drops on our article page or on the POP MART website, be careful tho as the dates on the latter may depend on your location. This is especially important for SKULLPANDA, LABUBU and CRYBABY collectors as these seem to always sell out first.
- Enjoy the process: lastly, we hope you enjoy the process. Collecting is a fun hobby that takes time but we are excited to support you every step of the way!
